Kentucky Band Vine and Stone Discuss The Project.....

After a random contact and chat over social media I managed to grab some time from Vine and Stone......

Thanks for the interview guys, can you tell us about your musical background, how you got together to form the band, the band members and how would you describe your style?

Vine and Stone is a Lexington, Kentucky, USA band comprised of guitarist, Bront Davis and drummer, Paul Nuzzo. The two trade-off lead vocals to achieve their distinctive sound.

We are a stripped-down to essentials rock band with a broad array of influences, ranging from Hendrix and Dire Straits to Tycho and from Genesis and Brian Eno to bands like Wilco and Lord Huron. For a duo, we believe we bring a ton of energy to live performances, and audiences are often amazed at how much sound two focused individuals can make.

We’ve worked together since 2011 with the band IronWorks and we have a vast array of experiences playing wineries, breweries, bars, restaurants, university events, and various other charitable and private functions.

What are your music influences?

Bront picked up the guitar as a teenager and now has been playing for over thirty years. Influenced early by the guitar heroes of yore (Page, Hendrix, and Gilmour) his listening and playing tastes have expanded to players like Ralph Towner, Andrew York, and Julian Lage. As a songwriter, he prefers the esoteric to the commonplace, citing as influences such artists as David Sylvian, The National, and Kate Bush.

A multi-instrumentalist, Paul started playing clarinet and saxophone, but gravitates more to percussion and the drum kit. A devotee of Genesis, Rush, and Prog Rock in general, Paul is not only the rhythmic backbone of Vine and Stone but a fantastic singer, arranger, and producer.

Has lockdown impacted you creatively at all, and how have you found the past few months?

The COVID lockdown has impacted us, just like everyone else. We strive to keep a positive outlook on things, but it is difficult not doing gigs or even having practices. We continue to create new music and lyrics, but it is not the same as getting together to explore new creative ideas. We are excited to get back out to gig starting this Spring and to continue our work on album #2.

Can you tell us about your latest releases and the idea behind it? What other releases have you brought out?

We released our first studio recording, The Project, in September 2020. We worked to create lyrically compelling songs that relish story-telling and wordplay combined with catchy melodies, driving and intricate percussion, and multi-layered guitar tracks. The tunes span the gamut from straight up rock and roll to alt-country to experimental and ambient. We feel there is something for everyone on this album. We don’t expect total world domination with our album. We just hope people can enjoy our tunes and to share the music.

Where can folks get to listen to your music?

Our new album, The Project, is available on most streaming services (Spotify, Apple iTunes, Amazon, Soundcloud, BandCamp). We think that covers most of them. Even in this digital age, we do have hard copies on CD. No vinyl yet, but that may happen in the future. Who knows, stay tuned. We also encourage you to check out our social media pages, YouTube Channel and website

What's next for you?

We want to see the world get vaccinated and COVID to disappear so we can all get back to “normal.” We are excited to get back out to gigs, continue to promote The Project, and start recording our next album.

Anything else you'd like to add about the project, or a message for the readers?

We want to thank the readers of this blog and also the listeners who give their time to listen to our music. We are big supporters of everything local, so we hope others do the same in their community. Spread the word about us and your local musicians. Let’s support and share some love with each other during this difficult time. Things will get better. All our best to you and your readers.

Cheers guys
